The 991 was launched in 2012 to replace the 997 and retained the normally aspirated flat 6 engine but now available as a 3.4 regular Carrera (350 BHP) or 3.8 Carrera ‘S’ (400 BHP).
Having already brought out a GTS model to bridge the gap between regular Carrera’s and GT3 product with much success Porsche waited until late 2014 to produce the GTS variant of the 991 with headline features of more power at 430 BHP, unique Centrelock alloy wheels, more aggressive exterior styling and a wide body regardless of whether it was 2 or 4 wheel-drive.
The Targa roof was invented by Porsche nearly 60 years ago in 1965 named after the Targa Florio race in Italy in which Porsche enjoyed much success. The original concept included a (manually) removeable overhead fabric panel and a central safety roll hoop bridging across the car. Later versions of 911 Targa’s (993-997) had glass roofs with no hoop or removeable section but for the 991 Porsche reverted to the signature Targa bridging hoop and a beautiful fully automatic folding central section above the driver’s head.
991 Targa’s are rare with a limited production period but in GTS format even more so with scarcely a year of production for the normally aspirated version.
So, is this the ultimate Targa available?

For many years I had been driving past Harbour cars promising that one day I would go in for real. That day came on my 60th birthday!Although being an ‘easy’ customer kind of knowing exactly what I wanted being a 911 nut have to say that the service was superb and I also felt a certain reassurance from buying from here being my first Porsche! along with attention to detail. They made the whole experience special, would defiantly go back!!
