The ‘718’ designation was given to the new Boxster product launched in 2016 (and later the Cayman) as a nod to the success of Porsche Flat 4 engines in the Fifties and Sixties. The chassis number of ‘718’ product means they are actually a ‘982’ but the denomination hasn’t gained any tractyion and we all call them ‘718’s’. The original ‘718’ was launched in 1957 as a successor of the legendary 550 Spyder, amongst its many victories the 718 won the Targa Florio twice and scored a class victory at the Le Mans 24Hrs.
Despite this history, the new ‘718’ wasn’t always well received as it didn’t sound like the rest of the Flat 6 product when we started it up and it sat idling on the forecourt. For the first couple of years of 718 production we continued to concentrate on selling the best 981 to owners who wouldn’t be persuaded.
So what happened? Well people started to drive them and the on road performance and driving experience came through. The basic 2.0L Turbo had 295 HP, the 2.5L Turbo of the ‘S’ had’ 345 HP and the range topping 2.5 GTS 360 HP. This improved performance over the ‘981’ and the technology advancements as a newer car together with their great value for money means we now sell as many ‘718’ (982) as we do the legendary ‘981’ Flat 6 so our recommendation is if you are not sure which is right for you come and try them.

For many years I had been driving past Harbour cars promising that one day I would go in for real. That day came on my 60th birthday!Although being an ‘easy’ customer kind of knowing exactly what I wanted being a 911 nut have to say that the service was superb and I also felt a certain reassurance from buying from here being my first Porsche! along with attention to detail. They made the whole experience special, would defiantly go back!!
